Three area names on Boy Scouts ‘perversion files’ list

The names of three men who resided in the area at the time the incidents allegedly occurred appear on the Boy Scouts “perversion files” list that was made public Thursday by the Oregon Supreme Court.

Records indicate that for decades, various authorities, including law enforcement officials and members of the clergy, “shielded scoutmasters and others accused of molesting children.”

A CBS story said those authorities “justified their actions as necessary to protect the good name and good works of Scouting, a pillar of 20th century America.”

The files reportedly contain 14,500 pages. The records say sexual predators were allowed “to go free while victims suffered in silence.” Lawsuits are pending.

The names of the area men include: Elmer Earl Myers, Rushville (8/12/1968); Gary Lee Kissel, Richmond (8/18/1960); and Joel Danzler Rhodes, Centerville (4/11/1963).
