Altrusa ready for 19th Chili Challenge
You’ve been waiting for it since the moment you walked out of Expo Hall last year. And, as you know, the wait will have been worth it.
Altrusa will hold its 19th annual Chili Challenge Saturday at the Hall, located on 14 Acres, just south of Roberts Park.
Thirteen teams are scheduled to participate in the popular event that runs from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. There is no admission charge.
Chili must be ‘Texas-style’ — sans beans and pasta. The winning team will receive a $200 prize. Booths will be decorated and a Showmanship Award will be given.
Tasting the various chilis costs 25 cents per sample. The team that collects the most money wins the much sought-after People’s Choice Award.
More than 30 booths will be open with numerous crafts available, according to officials, who said some non-profit groups will occupy booths. A craft show and silent auction are scheduled; Altrusa club members will serve lunch during the day.
Money generated from the club’s largest fundraiser goes toward college scholarships and to local service organizations.
