EDG puts spin on 2011 success
“2011 successful; EDG hopeful for 2012“ are the headlines in today’s Connersville News-examiner.
According to the latest information from Indiana workforce development -out of Indiana’s 92 counties- Fayette County is again ranked number one in unemployment.

According to the News-examiner story, “the year recently completed by the Economic Development Group will go down as a successful year.”
The major success listed by Pete Bell, Chairman of the EDG Board of directors, was giving Stant Manufacturing one million dollars to stay in connersville for the next eight years. Fayette County and the City of Connersville both donated $450,000, with the other $100,000 coming from EDG and the Urban Enterprise association. The move will reportedly create 59 additional jobs.
Nothing was mentioned about the loss of Crown Industries to New Castle Indiana or the numerous other businesses that closed their doors for the last time in Connersville.
Local residents continue to hear that great news is just around the corner. In the local newspaper, Mayor Urban in 2009 said, “this has been a great year for the hopes and morale of Connersville.“ Councilman Gary Weber continually states that Fayette County’s problems will soon change from high unemployment to not having enough people to fill jobs.
Staying Positive
While everyone (including towncow) wants nothing but great things for Connersville and Fayette County, hearing government officials say year after year how great things -are gonna be, only adds to negativity and distrust of local government.
Was 2011 a successful year for Connersville?
