Urban in 2009: “This has been a great year for the hopes and morale of Connersville”
$500,000 Targeted to Clean Up Former Visteon Site
12/22/2009 (This money was from the Smalley’s trust, promised to ONLY be used for the new community park – Until Mayor Urban killed the project)
Connersville Mayor Leonard Urban said: “We are extremely grateful to the State of Indiana and the Attorney General for the part they have played in this endeavor. This has been a great year for the hopes and morale of Connersville.” (Again, this was the year 2009)
Jobs rally in Connersville
29 July 2009 … Mayor Leonard Urban says landing Carbon Motors would be a huge moral boost. “It means hope, for once instead of announcing that we are losing something, we would like to announce that we are gaining something,” said Urban. (We don’t remember him announcing the Crown Industries departure?)
Connersville Lands High-Tech Police Car Factory
7/29/2009 … City Councilman Gary Weber tells WIBC News this is the “biggest day in Connersville’s history.”
Mayor, Carbon Motors officials named honorary Ky. Colonels
April 14, 2010 … “These three men have vision. Vision is looking at something for what it can be and not what it is.” SAME ANALOGY →
“We’ve taken flak for saying you have to have an associate’s degree to work at Carbon Motors — not changing,” Li said. “We raised the bar and that’s where it is set. Our first responders get up every morning and they deserve the best.”
Diploma Required For Workers At New Plant
April 5, 2010 … CONNERSVILLE, Ind – Some former factory workers may be shut out when Carbon Motors comes to Connersville. Executives confirmed that assembly line workers will be required to have an associate degree in engineering, and need to be computer literate to work as their own quality control units.
Mayor Hopes Loan Decision Coming Soon
7/6/2011 … Urban tells our partners at WIBC/Network Indiana the company has thousands of orders for fuel-efficient police cruisers.
Walmart Ready to Reveal New Store to Connersville Shoppers
July 6, 2011 … “I am pleased that Walmart is willing and has faith in our community to invest millions of dollars into Connersville,” said Connersville Mayor Leonard Urban. “This investment shows that they have great expectations for the future and that they are committed to offering our citizens an improved store that better serves our community. They have proven to be an asset to Connersville and I look forward to welcoming this beautiful new facility.”
(Mayor Urban came to my home one day prior to Walmart being built and asked me – a member of the Fayette County Area Plan Commission, to “vote against the new Walmart.” I told him that we vote on land use, not for or against Walmart or any other business - but we did vote months earlier to rezone the land from Industrial and Agricultural to Business. He didn’t like it and said we shouldn’t have done that … until I explained to him that he voted in favor of the same thing while sitting on City Council … oops.)
Plans For Carbon Motors Plant Stalled
It would give the Connersville-Fayette County community a much-needed economic boost, as the county has the highest unemployment rate in the state.
Connersville Mayor Leonard Urban is trying to prevent an economic disaster, 6News’ Rick Hightower reported.
Urban said Congress needs to leave the money earmarked for Carbon Motors alone.
“I understand that people have lost their homes (in disasters). I understand that, but we need jobs, and I would think they can probably find that money someplace else,” Urban said.
(We at Towncow believe Mayor Urban needed to “leave the money earmarked for the new million dollar Smalley’s lake Project” alone also – but that money was pilfered from the citizens trust fund – earmarked ONLY for that project – and hidden in a secret account to freely use as he pleases.)
ELECTION: Candidates talk about city budget, overtime
According to the 11/2/2011 Connersville news-examiner …
The number of police and fire department employees has been reduced in the past few years. The overtime budget had been set at $50,000 for each department when the year began. In July, each department received $30,000 more for overtime pay. The council in October provided an additional $20,000 to each department for overtime. That amount is approximately the same amount of overtime paid in 2010.
Urban believes his administration has been addressing the overtime situation.
He said that by reducing the number of firemen and police on a shift, the city has been able to cut overtime by more than half.
(So which is it, approximately the same or – Urban’s version- cut in half?)
Urban said he is proud that the 2012 budget is $800,000 less than the budget he inherited when taking office in 2008. That was not easy with property tax caps in place.
(Council Members vote on City budgets – not mayors. Budgets are strictly a city council duty and responsibility … Urban is not on council now but was prior to 2008 … when he “inherited” the problem – that he himself helped create.)
Gary Weber said … “We have approached the fire department about volunteers but there is the issue of training.” Maybe we could hire a retired, young firefighter to cover vacations.
City Plans restroom, bathhouse projects (2006)
March 4 2006 … Restrooms located near the Roberts Park Amphitheater will be torn down and new construction could begin as summer approaches near the original site, Mayor Max Ellison said Friday. The city is working on the project in conjunction with the building trades class at Whitewater Technical Career Center to help provide labor for all the projects.
The city is also planning work on the bathhouse at the swimming pool in Roberts Park.
(Urban has continually taken credit for both the “NEW PARK BATHROOMS” and “RENOVATED THE POOL HOUSE” but as you can clearly see if you click on the news article at the right from early 2006, both those projects had started WAY before the Urban administration along with many other things Urban credits to himself.)

Narcissic and Meglomaniac are what Urban and Weber are. Got Time – Look those words up. Convinceing liars. The sad part. They don’t get it.
I never liked an “I told you so” statement very much but Weber used his time to talk about his vision for our community in the paper to call TownCow liars and a negative influence on the community.
Gee whiz Tooth Fairy, does TownCow telling the truth get your golf cart all revved up?
It is interesting, isn’t it BlindMelon. First, the complaints by Councilman Weber a couple of weeks ago are that TownCow is negative, is “stupid” and worthless and something people don’t pay any attention to. Suddenly – as you noted – Councilman Weber derides a website, saying it prints stories without facts and is being a negative influence to potential business owners who could read it.
Besides the obvious question of ‘Which is it?’ Stupid and unknown or influential? I’m personally inviting the councilman to provide examples of stories TownCow has printed that didn’t contain accurate facts. That’s a challenge.
It’s obviously desperation time for Councilman Weber and some other incumbents, but rather than read his opinions about negative websites in the News-Examiner, I would like to have seen what he has to say about his plans for the future of Connersville and what he plans to do to help improve things here. And no, the broken record of ‘Connersville will soon have more jobs than competent people to fill them’ doesn’t count. What are the councilman’s plans to help improve our dying community? Oh yeah, approving the use of golf carts on city streets doesn’t count, either. – kh
Mr. Burgess and Mr. Hendrix, I am positive you will once again be labeled as having a personal biased against the Urban administration and for writing this article. Many times you have been called liars, hate mongers and a negative voice in the city of Connersville, IN. I believe you should be applauded for your continuing exposure of this crooked and vile administration.
Unfortunately, many of the good people of Connersville have been duped for the last four years. Having plied his particular business, Urban has honed his skills as a snake oil salesman on the grieving and elderly of our city for years. He has become a master pitchman and the last 4 years have only solidified my opinion of him.
Leonard E. Urban has a problem with truth and facts. The problem with TRUTH and FACTS are, TRUTH and FACTS never change. Telling a grieving widow in the privacy of a sales room one thing then reneging on your lies is one thing. Pulling the same shenanigans in front of a newspaper and radio reporter or in front of a television camera is completely different. How many times can Leonard E. Urban publicly deny his own comments, then it be proven he actually did say it, before people start seeing him for the person he is?
Even in this article, were you have detailed several direct quotes from Urban’s own mouth, Urban and his followers will undoubtedly dispute these FACTS. Urban has a very unique ability to bedazzle people with lies and promises. Goodness knows he has had 40+ years to sharpen his skills.
I have been a follower and supporter of TownCow since its inception. The reason is (regardless of your personal feelings toward the Urban administration) you have continued to shine a light on the lies and deceit that is Leonard E. Urban.
I know this has come at great personal sacrifice and much public ridicule. I am proud to continue to be a supporter.
Very well said BlindMelon! Of course if you were to look up Truth and Facts in the Urban dictionary it would be “whatever Leonard Urban says” and sooooo many would believe it.
We often wonder how intelligent people can fall for the con artists, carnival pitchmen and the Bernie Madoffs. Some of the same people who follow Urban without question would call someone falling for a shell game a fool, yet they believe everything Urban tells them.
There are many in town, who I thought were alot smarter, who say they can’t vote for Harold because “he is not smart enough,” so they are voting for someone they admittedly don’t trust. Just because Urban is a “crafty” liar does not make him intelligent!!
What does it say about our society that people would rather vote for a known liar because he can fool them into thinking he is so knowledgable rather than vote for a man who has morals and integrity? If the people of Connersville vote the snake oil salesman back in, it will say alot about their own morals and integrity, or lack of.
People should remember Urban will tell them what they want to hear, then he will do what HE wants no matter what. He easily says he cut the city budget without laying anyone off. I guess he forgets about the woman who did the EMS billing, the women and men at the Utilities.
Thank you Towncow for reminding people that the restrooms and pool bathhouse reconstruction was not Urban’s idea. I am glad you included the article from the New-Ex or you would have been accused of fabricating lies. I know the news-ex and the radio station will hate it that some facts got in the way of their Urban worship.
